Throwback Thursday: Beetlejuice

October 30, 2014

Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice! BEETLEJUICE!!!

This weeks Throwback Thursday is dedicated to our favorite “freelance bio-exorcist” Beetlejuice.  Starring Michael Keaton, Alec Baldwin and Gina Davis, Beetlejuice (1988) is a classic that, in my opinion, is reaching a cult-like status.  The characters are popular in the cosplay world, and there are several Beetlejuice themed weddings to behold on Google. And who doesn’t think of the haunted dinner scene when they hear Harry Belafonte’s Banana Boat Song?  Also, if you listen closely you can hear the soundtrack composer, Danny Elfman, singing “Day-O” in the opening credit sequence.

In case you’ve never seen Beetlejuice, the film is about a couple of newly weds, Barbara and Adam, who die after their car plunges off a bridge near their New England vacation home.  After the crash, the couple return to their home to find a copy of “The Handbook For the Recently Deceased” waiting for them.  The couple begin to put two and two together and begin to suspect that they didn’t survive their unfortunate accident.  Due to miles and miles of post-mortem bureaucratic red tape, Barbara and Adam are left in limbo.  In the mean time, a new family by the name of Deetz move in and begin to remodel their home into a bad modern-art disaster.  Determined to save their beloved domicile, Barbara and Adam set out to scare the Deetzes off with the help of the zany Beetlejuice.  Check out the trailer!
