Netflix Saves the Date for House of Cards Season 3

December 2, 2014

The official Twitter account for Netflix’s award-winning drama House of Cards posted a very ominous 12 second video the other day featuring Kevin Spacey’s Frank Underwood and Robin Wright’s Claire Underwood slowly ascending the steps to an airplane, with Spacey giving his signature Richard III eyes-to-the-camera glance. This post refers to the upcoming third season of the show, which Netflix has slated for release on February 27, 2015.

With part of the presidential seal peaking into the frame, it is apparent that the plane the central couple is boarding is in fact Airforce One. Thus far that is the primary look we have into the next chapter of the show, although two new recurring cast members were announced a few months back, Kim Dickens and Jenna Stern, not to mention a supposed cameo appearance from Russian punk band Pussy Riot. Unfortunately, Elizabeth Norment passed away just last month. Norment had played Underwood’s secretary Nancy since the pilot episode.

House of Cards has proven to be a hugely successful show since Netflix launched the first season in 2012, their first foray into original programming. Both seasons have seen a slew of Emmy nominations, with the first episode winning an award for direction for the show’s executive producer David Fincher. Last year, Robin Wright took home the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Television Drama after the show’s second season greatly enhanced her storyline in the show, thus improving the show as a whole.

As is the form for the popular streaming service, Netflix will drop all of the new season at the same time on February 27th, so we can all just preemptively forget about whatever we could possibly have to do that weekend.
