Canela.TV's Latin Heritage Film Challenge

Canela.TV’s Latin Heritage Film Challenge

July 11, 2022

Canela.TV’s Latin Heritage Film Challenge.

AudPop is excited to partner with Canela Media again and launch Canela.TV’s Latin Heritage Film Challenge (Celebramos el Orgullo de Ser Hispanos). Latin Filmmakers and Creators will have an opportunity to tell their inspirational stories of Latin heritage, with a chance to win a distribution deal with Canela.TV.

How can we celebrate Latin Heritage and discover new Latin Filmmakers?

For one, this challenge does both. Send us your Latin Heritage stories, and we’ll share them with our global network. Some of you will have submitted to a challenge before, but new filmmakers will submit, too.

Then we get to discover and elevate more Latin filmmakers. It’s a win-win situation for the filmmakers, Canela.TV, and us. Give us bold stories that inspire and move the world into change.

Specifically, we want short documentaries and historical, scripted, or narrative films, ranging from 5- to 60-minutes in length. We strongly encourage filmmakers to submit films in Spanish. You can submit an English-speaking film, too, but please include Spanish subtitles.

Want to win a Paid Distribution Deal with Canela.TV?

Yep, you heard correctly. Submit to this Latin Heritage Film Challenge, and you could win a Paid Distribution Deal with Canela.TV!

Canela.TV will select up to 10 films to stream on their network. The top 10 winning filmmakers will receive a distribution deal from Canela.TV for non-exclusive distribution rights in perpetuity in the United States (US) and Latin America (LATAM). Canela.TV will cover legal rights in a long-form contract with the winners once the campaign closes.

Additionally, the winning filmmakers will also receive our AudPop Premium Filmmaker Status, which means you’ll be put on our go-to list for direct-hire filmmakers for brands.

Keep in mind that you need to have streaming rights to any and all music in your films and be able to prove those rights. To check out the list of deliverable assets required, please go here.

Who is Canela.TV?

Canela.TV is part of Canela Media, a minority and female-owned digital media company dedicated to reaching US Hispanics. They connect brands with multicultural audiences. Specifically, they’ve acquired Lexus, Nissan, Amazon, McDonald’s, and Verizon as clients, and Target and Hyundai have jumped on board with committed partnerships to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.

Canela is the first Free Streaming Service for US Hispanics. They offer culturally relevant Spanish and English programming, including Live Channels, VOD, and original productions.

One of Canela’s greatest strengths is it’s “built by Latinos for Latinos,” which means its digital media company thrives in the Latino community because it’s genuinely Latino.

How many times has AudPop and Canela Media partnered up?

Earlier this year, AudPop partnered with Canela Media and launched a Latin Film Challenge that brought in a multitude of great films. We asked for documentaries and fiction films celebrating Latin culture and life.

Two amazing filmmakers won. Gabriella Moses took Grand Prize with her film Las Mañanitas, a short film about the Virgin Mary visiting a young girl tempted to lose her virginity. Julian Nunez took Runner Up with his film De La Luz, a film about the risks a Mexican family experiences while crossing the Mexican border into the United States.

And now we’re doing it again!

AudPop is ecstatic to partner with Canela Media for a second time and offer an excellent opportunity for our Latin filmmakers with Canela.TV’s Latin Heritage Film Challenge (Celebramos el Orgullo de Ser Hispanos). We couldn’t be more thrilled, and we hope you engage and submit, so we can help elevate your filmmaking career.

Think of the possibilities that a paid distribution deal with Canela.TV could generate. Their reach is long and far, reaching millions of viewers. There’s no reason not to submit!

What is the submission deadline, and where do you go to submit?

The submission deadline is August 30 for Canela.TV’s Latin Heritage Film Challenge. You can submit your film here.

Remember to review the judging criteria and really consider whether your film hits the mark, so you can put your best foot forward. Is your film creative? What about the technical merit of your film? Do you have a fresh and diverse perspective?

And a big one is if you adhered to the assignment? We want to hear Latin Heritage stories, so get ready and create because we can’t wait to see your Latin Heritage films.

The challenge brief summarizes what’s needed, but if you want more details, make sure to read the terms.

AudPop is here for creatives, and we love bridging the gap between creating and getting your work out to the world. We’re all about open expression and the power of stories. We believe change comes from sharing and giving voice to what’s important, which continues to be the lives of each one of us.

Check us out, stay engaged, and get involved.
