Film Face-Off: Good Soil vs. Uprooted

September 8, 2014

[dil dil = 3009]

Good Soil

The Meier brothers of Borschemich, Germany must leave their gardening business and home due the impeding coal giant RWE. They have watched as their hometown dwindled to a ghost town of fifty occupants and now wait for the life they built brick by brick to be decimated and for the time they must relocate.

Uprooted

At what point does development begin to hinder a community rather than benefit it? In Vancouver, Washington the South West Washington Medical Center is uprooting a neighborhood for its expanding medical facilities. Some community members say it is benefiting the community others argue it is urban sprawl that is adversely affecting their quality of life.

Congratulations to the winner of last week’s film face-off Mr. Scandinavia!
