Almost 50 years ago, the iconic tourism slogan “Virginia is for Lovers” was born. An attempt at several versions was made, each pointing to different facets of the Commonwealth: lovers of history, beaches, and mountains. There’s so much to love about Virginia, it simply became “Virginia is for Lovers.” Now add to that music, film, craft beer, oysters, film. The list goes on!
Virginia Tourism and the Virginia Film Office put out a call to all filmmakers to rise to the same challenge that existed in 1969. Can you capture the glory which is Virginia?
President and CEO of Virginia Tourism, Rita McClenny commented, “The Virginia is for Lovers Film contest feeds the hunger for stunning content, showcasing film projects that are capturing authentic Virginia experiences. The contest also gives filmmakers a larger audience and an opportunity to fund future projects.”
“Our online contest will reward talented Virginians who are producing authentic content, while highlighting the Commonwealth and its most beautiful assets,” said Andy Edmunds, Director of the Virginia Film Office. “This competition is the perfect opportunity for citizens from around the Commonwealth to discover why Virginia is for Film Lovers.”
Show us what there is to love about Virginia by creating a 30- to 90-second video on 1080p HD and submitting it by May 29, 2017, at 9 p.m. EST.

This short film competition is inspired by the Virginia Screenwriting Competition.
The call for entries opens at the Virginia Film Festival November 3, 2016, and closes May 29, 2017, at 9pm EST. After the close of submissions, your audience can log into Audience Awards to vote for your video every day. A jury from the Virginia Film Office will also select winning entries from submitted videos. Audience and jury selected submissions will win cash prizes totaling $15,000.
