Lauren Bacall, an actress and model who made her cinematic début next to Humphrey Bogart in To Have and Have Not, has passed away, on August 12, due to a stroke. She was 89. Bacall was a classic beauty, known for her voice which came at you “low and flat, wildly insinuating, electric and lingering,” as described by Manohla Dargis in The New York Times. Her love-affair with Humphrey Bogart was the hottest gossip in the ’40s and her presence as a strong female actress is enduring.
