Filmmakers, shine a spotlight on startup stories as only you can.

Audience Awards hosts GoDaddy, the world’s consummate host, for its Small Business Stories documentary-style competition.

The challenge asks documentarians to shine a light on small businesses and the people who create them. Point your camera at those diligent, passionate human beings brave enough to start a small business. Tell their unique story, as only filmmakers can, about the triumph and heartbreak, the blood and guts that go into making a small business work.

“We can all be inspired by the stories of small, independent ventures that power the global economy.” said Christopher Carfi, director of content marketing at GoDaddy. “We are pleased to partner with Audience Awards to offer an opportunity for filmmakers to capture the true essence of what it takes be a small business owner today.”

The contest calls for one- to two-minute documentary-style shorts highlighting a small community business and the people invested in that business: real stories through a human lens, rather than pretty lighting and technical polish.

These stories should be compelling and real, but can also be GoDaddy-esque, which GoDaddy’s founder, Bob Parsons, terms “fun, edgy and a bit inappropriate.”

The shorts will be judged by audience and by jury. The top ten jury-selected winners truly WIN.

1st Place is awarded $10,000

2nd Place is awarded $3,000

3rd Place is awarded $1,500

All seven honorable mentions get $1,000 each

Those small businesses upon which you shine your spotlight win as well. The better you tell their story, the bigger the audience that story draws. As Audience Awards champions filmmakers, providing opportunities for career success, so to has GoDaddy consistently supported the small business owner. The Small Business Stories contest is your chance to help in that endeavor.

Audience and preliminary jury voting opens Feb 14, 2017, and closes Feb 21, 2017. From the first round, the top 10 audience-voted and the top 10 preliminary jury-selected entries will move on to the finals round to be judged by a GoDaddy panel of jurors. Winners will be announced Feb 23, 2017.
