Announcing the newest AudPop Competition: 2014 Doc Challenge Showcase

We are thrilled to announce the launch of a new competition on The Audience Awards: the 2014 Doc Challenge Showcase. Why are these films special? They were all made in only five days.

The International Documentary Challenge is an annual timed filmmaking competition where filmmakers choose between two assigned documentary genres and are assigned a specific theme that will dictate the content and direction of their film. Each film is a short non-fiction film between 4-7 minutes.

Over 100 filmmakers from around the world entered the competition, which ran from February 26 to March 2. The top 12 films were then determined by an elite industry jury and premiered in May at Hot Docs, the largest documentary film festival in North America. Sponsored by P.O.V. Documentary Educational Resources, DocuMentors, Video Blocks and Submittable, Doc Challenge films go on to screen at film festivals and on television – some even get Emmy nods.

We already know that these 12 short films are the cream of the crop. Now we want to know which is YOUR favorite. The next step for Doc Challenge finalists is to compete at www.audpop.com for digital votes. The winner gets $1,000 dollars, thanks to VideoBlocks.

This year’s showcase of films is exceptional. Stay tuned to AudNews for reviews of our favorites, as well as news about Fusion Doc Challenge where the top films will premiere at Slamdance in Park City January 2015.

Watch the Doc Challenge short films here. You can vote for one film per day from June 23 to July 14.
