The aim of “Voices Unheard” is to focus on children’s perspectives in all situations. Children are at the heart of all that we do. The movies that we associate with are heartfelt stories that speak the truth. Stories are at the core of our learning and growth. We hear stories from each other, some stories are fabricated to teach us lessons, and some are true incidents and situations in our lives. We share stories, and the stories, in turn, connect us to each other. With our movies, we want to share true stories – from around the world – focusing essentially on the unique perspective of a child and how he/she not only interprets these stories but also lives them.
While penning this story, I felt that the words resounded of the children, parents, and volunteers who were impacted. When one faces the reality of this disease in one’s life, either by suffering or experiencing a loved one suffering from it, it literally changes one’s life.
When cancer strikes, our first emotion is “fear”, but our work with children has shown us that children with cancer deal with the disease with positivity and hope. Their attitude toward a disease that is so heavily feared in the adult world is very inspiring. As adults, we can learn from them not only to deal with the disease but also how sometimes to un-condition our minds and handle otherworldly struggles. We believe that no one should have to fight cancer alone – especially not the young brave hearts.
Working with children who have cancer was a life-changing experience for the cast and crew. The team was able to “work together & give back to the cause by using art.” Having a strong team of the movie’s award-winning editor & sound designer Kartikye Gupta, Music composer Aalap Dipesh Desai, screenwriter Elizabeth Soro-Lara helped in getting this vision to life in the post-production stages in Los Angeles, CA, USA. The film was directed in India by talented Kankana Chakraborty, brilliant cinematography by Mridul Sen with the assistance of Line producer Dhawal Pokle. Sonal Jha and Anisa Ani play the main characters in the film supported by Nilay Paranjape & Poornima Phuse. The powerful voice over was recorded in the USA by Isabella Hofmann recorded and technically mastered by Tess Cacciatore.
All our movies have a call to action. Through this film, we are raising funds for the treatment of children with cancer. Our previous project in media helped raise funds for sexual trauma survivors. We are very grateful that such experimental films on social causes are being shown so much love globally, depicting that the world is ready for a fresh perspective. We are all connected, not insulated and what impacts one cannot be ignored by the other. Not anymore.
When we were younger, stories brought us HOPE and JOY. By bringing these untold stories we want to spread seeds of HOPE across the globe. We really hope you like our heartfelt movie. The time for “real” connections is here and NOW, connections beyond electronic screens and beyond the haze.
