What is your film commission’s mission?

The Oklahoma Film + Music Office (OF+MO) strives to support and connect local, national and international filmmakers with Oklahoma’s skilled crew, talent, production services and diverse locations which span across 12 eco-regions. OF+MO also promotes and showcases Oklahoma’s rich musical heritage and connects emerging artists of all genres to music venues and businesses across the state. Our purpose is to grow the film and music industries statewide.

What makes your film commission unique?

OF+MO is unique in that we are dually tasked with supporting both the film and music industries in Oklahoma. We’ve often found these two industries cross-pollinating, particularly with the additional rebate monies afforded to film productions via our state’s Oklahoma Film Enhancement Rebate Program. A production which has qualified for this program can increase their total rebate from 35 to 37% by spending at least $20,000 on music that is written and recorded in Oklahoma. More films are starting to discover the wide array of talented musicians and composers we have in Oklahoma. Recent successful examples of films to include Oklahoma music or compositions include “Te Ata,” “Monday at 11:01AM,” “Gosnell,” “Rudderless,” “Home Run” and “To The Wonder.”

What are some perks to filming in your location?

In addition to our incentive program, Oklahoma boasts 12 eco-regions, with everything from the trademark Great Plains and sweeping prairies to unexpected lush forests, plateaus and sand dunes. The state’s film-friendly businesses, hard-working crews and low-cost of living make it a great place to work.

Are there any projects you would like to promote?

We will be launching our brand new website by the end of year and  encourage audiences to stay connected to us by visiting www.okfilmmusic.org and subscribing to our monthly newsletter, “Now Playing,” to stay apprised of the current film and music industries in Oklahoma. OF+MO also hosts bi-annual Networking and Mentoring event series for local filmmakers and music-makers. Our first event was very well received and featured Kristofer McNeely of MarVista Entertainment: https://www.ok.gov/triton/modules/newsroom/newsroom_article.php?id=200&article_id=18430

What marketing materials did you submit to the Creativity Awards?

OF+MO Logo – After recently rebranding, we chose to enter our logo into the Audience Awards contest because we feel the play button truly conveys all that we do for the film and music industries in our state.  Oklahoma’s heartland hospitality and thriving creative industries are the perfect platform to invite filmmakers and music-makers to come “play”!

“Great Diversity, Better Incentives” ad design – With 12 distinct Eco-regions and one of the highest cash rebate percentages in the world, this ad design conveys the most exceptional reasons to film in Oklahoma.

Oklahoma Film + Music Office Film Sizzle Reel – We entered this piece because we felt this short 30 second video is the perfect way to sample the beauty of Oklahoma and diversity of our landscape and culture, and see why Oklahoma is the perfect place to film your next project.
