One Word—Cocktender.

Why, How I learned to Stop Worrying and Love Gin, is my personal Cat Griz Competiton favorite.

Montgomery's head distiller

There have been many exceptional films made for the Cat vs Griz Film Competition, but none of them had me going like Rachel Steven’s Introducing Montgomery, or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Gin. Maybe I am biased because I love Montgomery Distillery’s Whyte Lady Gin (I even own a t-shirt) and I’ve sat down on rainy afternoons and picked the bartenders’ brains about bitters and its connection to the prohibition. But this short mockumentary taught me something about Montgomery’s that I hadn’t gathered before on its barstools … that the people who run the distillery are absolutely hilarious.

yoga, montgomery's distillery, audience awards, how i learned to stop worrying and love gin, introducing montgomeryThis video is chock full of punch lines. From “cocktologists” to “cocktenders”— the names Ryan Montgomery (played by owner Ryan Montgomery) gives to his craft cocktail concocting bartenders.

Stevens is a clever filmmaker. As Audience Awards user Jeff McClain puts it, “I love the ’70s classroom film-projector vibe to this whole piece.”  The costumes compliment the credulous nature attributed to some characters and affirm the quirkiness in others.  How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Gin, pays homage to a Missoula icon, The Montgomery Distillery, and to the unique town itself, “home to writers, loggers, fishermen and now distillers.”

Before the Cat Griz competition ends, you must watch How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Gin.  I bet you a drink you won’t vote for it.  And keep your “eye” out for how Steven’s film 20/Nothing does in the ongoing Doc Challenge competition.

The Cat vs Griz Competition ends at midnight TONIGHT.  Vote now for your favorite.
