The Five Most Rad Adventure Films on Audience Awards

July 13, 2018

Summer is here which means adventure awaits. Our staff has put together a list of 5 of our favorite adventure films all featuring inspiring individuals who have chosen to work toward something bigger than themselves in some of the most demanding environments. We hope these five shorts stir your summer adventures.

Equal Footing by Daniel Holz

Wyoming’s remote and vast wilderness provides the perfect canvas for Alpinists Kim Havell and Julia Heemstra to redefine preconception of the feminine. Isolated and exposed, their presence breathes life into this bleak yet breathtaking landscape as they navigate sheer granite walls and explore the fabric of experience.

Ascend by Simon Perkins

As a young adult, Jon lost his leg to cancer. Mountain biking has played a critical role in helping him sink his teeth back into life.

Delta Dawn by Pete McBride

The Colorado River hadn’t kissed the sea in almost two decades — until the spring of 2014 when an experimental pulse of water was released into this forgotten delta. A team of river runners followed the water to witness this unprecedented restoration effort and attempted to be the only, and potentially the last to float the Colorado River to the sea by paddleboard. With unpredictable adventure as the backdrop, filmmaker Pete McBride tells the story of Western water, a challenged Colorado River and the uplifting potential for environmental restoration via collaboration, all through his repeated experiences chasing a river to the sea.

The Time Travelers by Forest Woodward, Brendon Leonard & Gnarly Bay Productions

In January 2017, the USA Men’s Rafting Team set their sights on making history by attempting to break a legendary speed record down 277 miles of the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. Their goal was 34 hours. 34 hours…straight. Throughout 2016, we sporadically followed these scrappy, determined guys on their quest…training hard, designing their custom boat, and gaining perspective on what it means to attempt something extraordinary on one of the world’s most breathtaking stages.

Slacker by Max Lowe

Adventure beneath the crust at Moab’s illusive Fruit Bowl; revealing the truth that lies just beneath the surface at the annual GGBY Thanksgiving celebration. This grassroots gathering brings together all walks of life, seething with passion and aerial expression. At its core, we find key member Terry Acomb, who’s dedicated his life to the progression of slacklining. Having discovered the location and set its first lines, Terry works to educate and inspire the new generation to challenge and support one another in what he considers to be America’s greatest playground.
