How did you get inspired to become a filmmaker?
I think I have always been a filmmaker. Telling stories is part of everyone’s imagination and internal monologue. Committing them to film is just the next logical step.
What is your favorite part about the short film form?
It’s just so snappy! It lets you ask questions of the audience without answering them. You pose a question, or a theory, or a problem and they leave the auditorium thinking about how to solve it. It’s a very important medium.

Who were the people that supported the making of this film?
We have a small team of extremely talented volunteers. The deal is, as soon as one of us writes something, we all come together to make it. Also, I have the fantastic support of Films@59, a postproduction house in Bristol. Nothing could be done without their unerring support.
What is your next project?
We are very interested in pursuing the theme of depression and grief through the medium of short horror. So the next one will be a further exploration of those themes.
The independent film business is a difficult one. What keeps you motivated? Where do you see the industry going in the future?
I have a two-pronged attack on the film industry… I work as a crew member in film and TV drama, and make shorts in the winter when there is no work. As soon as I have a story in mind, I have to finish it… thats what keeps me motivated, as well as having no work for 3 months of the year. The big movie industry seems to be quite a separate thing from independent filmmaking. I think they will become more and more separate in the future.

Which filmmakers, artists or individuals have most influenced your work?
Oh goodness… In general: Pedro Almodovar, Woody Allen, anything by Blumhouse. Emily Carroll and the Creeypasta forum, Edgar Allan Poe, The Babadook and It Follows for this work in particular.
What advice would you give new filmmakers?
Just make something, anything. You can’t call yourself a filmmaker until you’ve actually made a film. So just get your friends together and make something.
