Introducing Art Montana Competitor, Kyle Weingart

May 14, 2015

Who are you and what’s your filmmaking background?

My name is Kyle Weingart. I am 25 years old and I have lived in Montana since I was born. I have been making small films since I was very young and decided at 19 that I wanted to make a career out of it. I have been in and out of school the past few years to get married and have kids. Now I have the inspiration I need to complete school and get a job in this industry. I am currently a junior and plan to graduate next year.

What are you working on right now?

I just finished my Art Montana film. Luckily one of my classes requires me to make a film, so I plan on making a short horror film. It is in the very infant stage as of now, but it will come together soon enough.

What are you promoting?

I am promoting myself as well as my band FACE.

What do you want the audience to take away from your films?

I want the audience to see that Missoula has a lot to offer in the music department. There are a lot of talented musicians in our area, yet we wait for someone famous to come to our town to make a fuss about seeing musicians. Missoula is overflowing with talented people that put on great shows.

What’s your favorite story from filmmaking?

Making the FACE documentary gave me the opportunity to play a live rock show in front of a crowd.

What are your wildest dreams for your filmmaking career?

I would love someday to write and direct movies on the large scale. I have lots of stories that I would like to share with the world and I couldn’t think of a better medium than film.

What currently inspires you?

My wife’s support is very inspiring. She has really pushed me to keep going even when things get crazy.

What’s your best advice for an aspiring filmmaker?

It might be cliché but practice. Film whenever you get the chance. You can only learn so much from talking about it. Classrooms are great, but the field is where you really fine tune your skills.
