What is your film commission’s mission?
Our mission is to create a sustainable screen industry in Wellington, and to become a sought after place for production along the whole value chain. We are here to support and help grow an industry of some of the most experienced and innovative people in the world.
What makes your film commission unique?
Screen Wellington is dedicated to being a one stop shop for filmmakers wanting to film in the Wellington Region. From permits to business connections, we are there to support you from pre-production through to post-production. We have built our own online permitting form (the only film permitting in New Zealand online) so filmmakers have the option of filling it out from anywhere from any device.
We are here to make sure that your production runs smoothly and safely.
Wellington is home to one of the most experienced crew base, from production to post-production. No matter how big or small your production, you will have crew with a track record of The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings, Pete’s Dragon, and many more.
What are some perks to filming in your location?
We have a wide range of landscapes in close proximity. You can be in Wellington CBD, and 30 minutes later on the southern coastline. We are surrounded by bushland, and are able to double as many places around the world.
Are there any projects you would like to promote?
Pete’s Dragon: Weta Digital created the dragon, filming in Wellington on location and in Studio.
The Hobbit: We are the middle of Middle Earth.
