Arthur Bullock Jr is Competing in the Post-Production REELPITCH Challenge

August 14, 2016

How did you get inspired to become a filmmaker?

Ever since I saw The Matrix, I knew what industry I wanted be in. As I work my way through college, the role in that industry has changed and solidified.

What is your favorite part about the short film form?

I enjoy the challenge of telling a story with a limited amount of time and budget. You have to cut all the fluff and constantly improvise your way through many roles to solve a lot of problems.

Who were the people that supported the making of this film?

My partner Anna is a huge supporter, along with my family, friends, coworkers, and classmates.

What resources do you use as a filmmaker? Music, locations, props, editing, crew, etc.

Anything and everything that I can get my hands on. As a student filmmaker with no track record or budget, I relied heavily on friends and family volunteers that had little to no training. We all had a blast though, and learned so much more on set than we could ever learn in a classroom.

What is your next project?

Now that would be telling.

The independent film business is a difficult one. What keeps you motivated? Where do you see the industry going in the future?

Love of the craft. I think the industry is changing in many ways that favor independent filmmakers; crowdfunding, online distribution, and access to cheaper and smaller tools.

Which filmmakers, artists or individuals have most influenced your work?

Too many to list, but here’s a few of the top ones for this particular project; the Wachowskis, Frank Miller, Robert Rodriguez, Christopher Nolan

What advice would you give new filmmakers?

BUST. YOUR. ASS. There is no substitute for hard work. People will see your passion and dedication, and they will join you.
