Introducing Filmmaker Jonathan Harnisch competing in 2016 Dramatic Short Video Contest

January 22, 2016

What is your favorite part about the short film form?

The short form requires that the story is condensed into its most important elements; I enjoy that challenge.

What resources do you use as a filmmaker? Music, locations, props, editing, crew, etc.

Music has always been crucial to my films. I think the appropriate score enhances the story and the cinematography.

The independent film business is a difficult one. What keeps you motivated? Where do you see the industry going in the future?

I think a true artist stays motivated from internal forces. I create because I need to create. If others can then view and appreciate what I’ve done, all the better.

What advice would you give new filmmakers?

Never give up! You’ll find your audience. You may not make a lot of money or receive a great deal of acclaim, but remember artists create because they must, and you are doing exactly what you need to be doing.
