Introducing Filmmaker Jonathan Harnisch competing in 2016 Dramatic Short Video Contest

January 22, 2016

How did you get inspired to become a filmmaker?

I’m not sure exactly how I became inspired to be a filmmaker; however, I have been involved with filmmaking since I was given my first Super 8 camera when I was 12, and I then began making mini-documentaries, with me as director and my cousins and other family members as “stars.”

Who were the people that supported the making of this film?

I would have to say my family, for both emotional and financial support.

What is your next project?

I work constantly as a mental health advocate. As a result, my projects these days are primarily focused on eliminating the stigma of mental illness and ensuring those identified as mentally ill are treated with compassion and respect.

Which filmmakers, artists or individuals have most influenced your work?

Without a doubt, Richard Linklater as a filmmaker and Stendhal as an author. I am a huge admirer of both.
