What is your film festival’s mission?
The Indie Memphis Film Festival presented by Duncan-Williams, Inc., transforms the city into a connecting point for filmmakers, musicians, artists, and audiences. With a focus on regional filmmaking, the festival seeks to bring a broad range of dynamic and engaging independent features, documentaries and short films to Memphis from all corners of the country. Indie Memphis enriches, inspires, and connects the community while cultivating interest in, and development of, independent film.
How long has your film festival been around?
The festival began in 1997 and is now entering its 19th year.
What is something people look forward to every year at your film festival?
There is always a high-level of excitement for the many debuting local films, both narrative and documentary, in our festival schedule. Another bonus that makes our festival fun are the live musical performances of some of Memphis’ best bands and musicians inside the theatres prior to each film screening.
What do you want audiences to take away from your film festival?
We want our audiences to engage with films and filmmakers in a way that serves as a unique alternative to their typical movie-going experience. We hope to enrich and enlighten people as to what independent filmmaking really is, and how it can positively impact them and the community. But most importantly, we want everyone to have fun watching the best in independent movies!
