Staff pick film, BRIX AND THE BITCH, directed by Nico Raineau, is competing in the Audience Awards 2017 LGBTQ Shorts Film Festival.
Trapped in a seedy and illegal fight club, one woman’s only chance for escape is to win a brutal brawl against the one person she refuses to harm. BRIX AND THE BITCH has won over 20 Awards during it’s festival run.

Nico Raineau is an award-winning filmmaker currently based in Los Angeles. He’s originally from the seaside town of Mystic, Connecticut and earned a BFA in film production from Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts. His career in film began as the director’s assistant to actor/filmmaker Ben Affleck on THE TOWN. He then transitioned into creative development, learning first from award-winning producing partners at Jinks/Cohen before then moving to Team Downey, a Warner Bros. based production company where he helped develop film and television projects for Robert Downey Jr.
In 2015, Raineau was a Top 10 Filmmaker Finalist on the fourth season of HBO’s Project Greenlight. He is also an outspoken feminist filmmaker, having been a 2016 finalist for #TheFWord feminist film contest as well as a featured panelist at the 2016 Phoenix Film Festival. He is also the owner of Amfran Entertainment, a production company based in Los Angeles, California.
Raineau is currently in post-production on a new pilot for YouTube Originals and is packaging his first feature film. He is represented by The Gersh Agency and managed by Magnolia Entertainment.
“This film was something of an artistic experiment. I wanted to try advancing the landscape of how women are perceived in the action genre. I wanted to place two strong and capable women at the forefront of this story, featuring them not just as brutal fighters but also heartfelt lovers. In doing so, my attempt was to inject the largely masculine genre with a feminist and LGBT message to create a unique action film that’s just as violent as it is emotional and thought provoking. I’m inspired by character driven action films that aren’t afraid to embrace femininity and vulnerability, so this was my experimentation with blurring the lines of genre and showing that women deserve more credit as badass heroines.”
