“I am really happy to receive this award in the name of the team that was involved in this project. It is hard for all of us to believe the impact that this short film has had in our community.
We work for the laboratory of traditional “artisan” cinema in Cartagena, Southern Spain. It was 50 hours before the deadline when we heard about the Kodak Super 8 Challenge. We did not hesitate and decided to participate. We had to work hard. We dedicated one day to the screenplay, another one for the shooting, developing and digitalizing the movie, and one night to compose the soundtrack. Now we look back at the process and it was more fun and enjoyable than we had expected. After so many years working together, the coordination and understanding of the team was exceptional.
Thanks to this contest, we have had a big repercussion in our city. Now, we are receiving more people in the lab. We have seen many youngsters’ lives impacted by this lab. This is why we have decided to donate the prize to the lab. Also, we got to work with a Super 8 thanks to the people in this lab one year ago, and the production of the short film could not have happened without them. Furthermore, since this is an “audience award”, we thought it was necessary to share the prize with our own “audience”. Our team proposed to use it for the lab in order to keep promoting the space in our community, works in Super 8 and analogic formats, and our work there. It is also a way to say thank to all the people that voted for our short film, we want to give them the opportunity to participate and be the next creators and, perhaps, the next winners of this or any other creative contest.”

“I was so shocked that out of the high amount of entries in the competition, “Mr. Man” became a finalist. It was an incredible experience to have my film screened at Slamdance, and a complete honor to win 2nd place in such a competitive contest, filled with so many unique pieces of outstanding work. I loved the diversity in this film competition. And I love that the top 3 films were all from different countries! Third place Dianne Ouellette from Canada. First place Pablo Madrid Lopez from Spain. And 2nd place from Nashville, Tennessee, USA 🙂 I’m extremely grateful to Slamdance, Kodak, and The Audience Awards for the opportunity and recognition.”

I live in São Paulo, I make movies but I am also a researcher and university teacher. It is hard to believe that my film was chosen from over 500 participants, so I’m very honored with the Jury Prize.”
