In staff pick film, Melon Head, directed by Andy Fortenbacher, a dim-witted man tries to win the affection of the girl of his dreams by taking some very terrible advice…
Fortenbacher is an award-winning writer, director, and producer based in New York City. His portfolio is currently packed with 17 shorts and 3 features. A few of his portfolio highlights include Melon Head which has screened at over 35 festivals and Moths, his 2015 Student Academy Awards semi-finalist film.
Fortenbacher filled us in on the inspiration behind the making of Melon Head. He explained,
“While working on my MFA at Columbia University, I was interested in blending horror and comedy and felt that an urban legend as ridiculous as “The Melon Heads” would be a great foundation for a high stakes story with fun characters and an absurd comedic scenario. I believed that combining those elements with the cinematic techniques often used in horror films would make for a unique storytelling experience.”
We are excited to add that Fortenbacher has announced he is currently in the development stages for the full-length feature of Melon Head.
Will Gordon’s terrible plan work or will things take an interesting turn? You’ll have to watch to find out!
